Many of our younger bicycle route participants have let us know that they would like a special mountain-bike route. As a result, the Rivin bicycle team has decided to find a nice route away from the main roads on the Kvarner islands that will challenge any athletic spirit. While our “normal” routes usually involve asphalted roads, for this particular route we decided to find as many macadam and unpaved roads as we could find. One of the high points of the route is certainly rafting on the Zrmanja River. If the water level is too low, we will opt for a canoe safari instead of rafting. Our experienced mountain-bike guide will surely take you through the most beautiful places; however you may want to keep in mind that this route requires that you be in excellent physical condition and have mountain-bike experience.

Description

Saturday:

11.30 and 13.00 boarding in the port in Rijeka. Shortly after we will depart and head towards Glavotok on the western coast of the island of Krk. We will disembark with our bicycles and begin the first stage of our route. We will take the quiet and mostly paved roads through the oldest villages on the island of Krk all the way to the town of Krk which is also the capital town of the island. Dinner and overnight stay in the port in Krk (approximately 25 km of bicycle riding).

Sunday:

After breakfast, we will arrive by boat in Lopar on the island of Rab. We will take narrow roads along the drystone walls and olive groves and cycle all the way to the port in Rab while enjoying the unforgettable scenery of the historical nucleus of the town of Rab with its four bell towers. There will be an opportunity for lunch in Rab and then we will take one final ride Rab-Gonar-Kampor-Rab. Dinner and overnight stay on board the boat (approximately 41 km).

Monday:

We will head out to sea and sail towards Novalja, the capital town located on the northern part of the island. After our arrival, we will have an opportunity for lunch at a restaurant or tavern in Novalja and then head south by bike. The island is full of contrast, partially rocky, partially covered in fields where many sheep graze and “produce” the famous Pag cheese. Along ancient drystone walls, used as protection against the wind, we will cycle towards the main town of Pag. After taking a short swimming break, we will cycle on macadam roads along the salt quarry to Mandre and meet up with our boat. Dinner and overnight stay on the boat in Mandre.

Tuesday:

After breakfast we will take the bus towards the Zrmanja River. Using a large rubber boat we will head down the canyon and take on the rapids. At around noon we will take a break and enjoy a picnic and swimming, let’s say, under the waterfalls of a crystal clear river… The bus will then take us to Zadar where our boat will be waiting for us once again. Dinner on the boat and overnight stay on board. If the water level of the river is too low for rafting, we will opt for a canoe safari instead.

Wednesday:

The boat will take us to Molat, the island of flowers, in the Zadar archipelago. We will then take a short bicycle ride from Molat to the small town of Zapuntel, and from there, after having lunch on the boat, head out to sea. Our destination will be the island of Losinj. After docking in the port in Mali Losinj, we will go on another afternoon route along the seaside to the picturesque place of Veli Losinj and then back again to Mali Losinj. There will be an opportunity for dinner at one of the numerous restaurants in Mali Losinj (approximately 21.4 and 21.5 km).

Thursday:

By boat we will head toward Osor where a bascule bridge connects the islands of Cres and Losinj. We will cycle to the fishing town of Beleja, where we will take a lunch break. Then we will take the unpaved roads along Vransko jezero (a lake) and along the seaside to the town of Cres. Dinner and overnight stay on the boat (approximately 49.9 km).

Friday:

Our final stage of the bicycle route will take us from the port in Cres to Predoscice and back. After returning to Cres, there will be an opportunity for lunch and we will take our bicycles on board the boat. We will set sail for the last time and head towards Rijeka. Before arriving in Rijeka we will take one last swimming break in one of the numerous coves on the island of Cres (approximately 28 km)

Saturday:

We will disembark after breakfast at around 9.00.
