Ugljan [Northern Dalmatian islands]
The island of Ugljan lies is several nautical miles away from Zadar, and it is connected to the island of Pašman by a bridge. It has been inhabited since the Roman times, which can be seen through the remains of Roman convents and old summer residences. Noble families from Zadar used to built their residences on the island, most famous of which is the Califfi castle from the 17th century. Fisherman places such as Ugljan, Lukoran, Kukljica and Preko offer you Mediterranean flair in restaurants and taverns and on festivities such as "Kaljska ribarska noć" in the town of Kala on the night of the full moon. Bays of the island are ideal places for going diving, and the island's inland is very interesting and suitable for trekking and mountain bicycling.
