The island of Ugljan lies is several nautical miles away from Zadar, and it is connected to the island of Pašman by a bridge. It has been inhabited since the Roman times, which can be seen through the remains of Roman convents and old summer residences. Noble families from Zadar used to built their residences on the island, most famous of which is the Califfi castle from the 17th century.
