Pirovac (Sibenik) [Sibenik riviera]
Pirovac is a picturesque northern Dalmatian place, 26 km north of Sibenik. It is placed on the shores of the bay of Pirovac where there are many trees and vineyards. There is also a safe harbor that is protected from all but western winds. It was first mentioned in the 13th century and it was owned by Croatian aristocrats in the Middle Ages. Pirovac attracts many tourists due to beautiful beaches in the bays of Sitnica, Vrulje, Makirina and Vrilo, as well as the islet of Sustipanac, placed directly opposite of Pirovac, where many tourists go swimming. Medicinal mud found in the area is nowadays used for thalassotherapy. Pirovac has some 20 restaurants where every Saturday during the season seafood evenings are organized. Besides for families with children, Pirovac is also ideal for fishing enthusiasts because large sheat-fish, pike and carp can be caught on Vransko Lake nearby.
