EXPLORE ADRIATIC BEYOND THE BEACH
Enjoy one of the most spectacular landscapes on the Mediterranean - the
fjord-shaped Bay of Kotor, surrounded by high mountains reflected in the blue
waters. We drive along the bay past Risan and picturesque Perast, the
home-town of many captains. We take a boat to the man-made islet of Our Lady
of the Rocks (Gospa od Škrpjela), another well-known shrine to the The Virgin
Mary. Upon returning home safely, sailors dropped rocks and old boats filled
with rocks at this spot and gradually created the islet as the foundation for
the church. Kotor is our next stop, situated on the foothill of the mountain
Lovćen, a town that has always provided a safe harbour to sailors and this
town of rich cultural tradition is one of the best preserved sights in the
Mediterranean. We take you for a tour of Kotor with its many streets and
squares telling the story of the past, surrounded by walls and fortresses
included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
There is vast archaeological evidence that places Budva, our next
destination, among the oldest urban settlements of the Adriatic coast. A
legend recounts that Budva was founded by Cadmus the Phoenician, a hero exiled
out of Thebes, Greece, finding shelter in this place for himself and his wife
Harmonia. Two other civilisations also left innumerable traces: the Greek and
the Roman. Upon the fall of the Roman Empire and its division into east and
west, the defensive barrier which separated the two powers happened to run
across this area, subsequently making a lasting impact on the history and
culture of this town. Enjoy free leisure time to explore this charming town
and its beautiful beaches. Return drive to Dubrovnik with a ferry ride across
the bay.
