About the accommodation unit

The lighthouse is a stone, ground-floor building surrounded by a terrace. There is one five-bed apartment in the lighthouse. The peninsula itself is a forest park. The town of Makarska is one of the best known tourist destinations on the Adriatic and, apart from its beaches, offers many sports activities. The vicinity of Makarska, with numerous places to go out to, makes this lighthouse an exclusive holiday destination.

Many visitors to Makarska often come to the lighthouse, meaning that, during high season, the lighthouse is not an ideal destination for those looking for peace and quiet, but for those who enjoy spending there holidays in a well-known tourist destination. We recommend to those traveling by car one-day trips to Biokovo and its highest peak Sv. Jure, where you can try paragliding and enjoy the most beautiful sunsets in this part of Europe. An asphalt road leads to Biokovo and there are road signs that will safely take you to a well-kept belvedere.

Beaches

The distance from the lighthouse terrace to the sea is 10 meters. There are several beaches with flat rocks suitable for suntanning in the vicinity of the lighthouse. When going from the lighthouse to Makarska, you will pass by one of the most beautiful pebble beaches on the Adriatic that has been awarded a Blue Flag. It is suitable for small children and the physically challenged, and offers numerous recreational activities and restaurants.

Underwaters

We do not recommend sports fishing in the surrounding underwaters during high season due to many swimmers, nevertheless spring and autumn are much better times for sports fishing. During summer, you can take part in diving courses (one of which takes place on the above mentioned Blue Flag beach). There are also interesting one-day diving tours that are organized from Makarska.

Transfer

In order to get to The lighthouse, take the road that leads to Makarska's "riva" (waterfront). When you reach the waterfront, turn right and drive west to the gate by the pine woods. The lighthouse is accessible by car which can be parked next to the lighthouse's fence. Please contact Mrs. Josipoviæ prior to your arrival, as she has the key to the gate at the entrance of Sv. Petar forest park. Upon arrival, the car should be left either at the lighthouse or taken out of the forest park. The gate is opened from 05:00 till 09:00 am. Please note this when planning your arrival time!

You can get to Split by plane and then by local bus lines to Makarska. You can take a bus from Split Airport to the Harbor Master's Office in Split. The bus station, where buses for Makarska leave almost every hour, is ten minutes away on foot.

Baggage transfer from the bus station in Makarska to the lighthouse can be arranged at extra charge.

Provisions

You do not have to bring provisions since they can be purchased every day in stores in Makarska. You can also buy fish from fishermen on Makarska's waterfront at reasonable prices.

Interesting to know

It is not known who named the lighthouse after the saint, the first apostle and martyr who also holds the key to heaven's gate. Nevertheless, this magnificent peninsula and the lighthouse on it resemble heaven due to beautiful beaches, crystal clear sea and Biokovo Mountain in the background.

Notes

Since Sv. Petar lighthouse is part of the promenade, the area around it, as well as the beach in front of it, are frequently visited by tourists. Holidays on Sv. Petar lighthouse are not recommended to those looking for peace and quiet, privacy and seclusion.
