Tour description
Day 1 Wednesday ZAGREB - arrival
Upon arrival at Zagreb Airport, you will be transferred to the hotel where you will be staying overnight; your tour guide is awaiting you there. You will enjoy your first dinner in Croatia.
Day 2 Thursday ZAGREB - PLITVICE LAKES NATIONAL PARK
We wake up in the city rich with gorgeous greenery - a city famous also for its parks, attractive landscapes and preserved natural environment - Croatian capital Zagreb. Morning expedition takes explorers to a journey through the long history clearly visible in architecture and park landscapes. City tour of Zagreb includes visiting the Upper Town where history is omnipresent. St. Mark's Church with its famous multicoloured tiled roof is situated in the Upper town, on the square where both Croatian Parliament and the seat of the Government are located. In front of it the leader of famous peasants' revolt Matija Gubec has been executed in 1573. Matija Gubec is also the protagonist of one of the first rock operas in modern Croatia, named after his earned nickname - Gubec Beg (eng. Gubec Bey). While Matija Gubec's cause was defeated, his legacy continued to be preserved in local folklore throughout the centuries. We also visit the typically gothic Cathedral of the great architectonic value whose two spires can be seen from many locations in the city and thus help explorers of Zagreb to find their way to a wanted destination. Croatian National Theatre that evolved out of the first city theatre built in 1836 (housed in the present-day Old City Hall), Zagreb's drama, opera and ballet house with world and Croatian classics put on stage and with the fountain in front sculpted by the world known sculptor Ivan Mestrovic, is not only a cultural and historical point but also one of the favourite places for skateborders. We also pass by the University. Following the big city experience, we will continue to Plitvice Lakes National Park, another UNESCO World Heritage site, where we will be immersed in peace and serenity. Sixteen lakes - true jewels, each at a different level, are joined by a series of cascading waterfalls. Situated in a dense forest the Plitvice Lakes are a natural phenomenon of a rare and unique beauty. Here, we will have dinner and spend the night.
Day 3 Friday PLITVICE - TROGIR - SPLIT
Morning sun and birds singing wake you up to continue the adventure towards Trogir, a small town, a historical jewel in the heart of Dalmatia. Here, history tells us another story, the story about Roman Empire which we can feel by touching the walls of the Cathedral of St. Lawrence, a Roman Catholic triple- naved basillica constructed in Romanesque-Gothic style. Heading south we end up in "the most beautiful city in the world”, Split. Don't ever deny this because people from Split truly believe this to be true! In the city tour we take you to the UNESCO World Heritage listed Diocletian's Palace with its Peristyle, the Temple of Jupiter and the Cathedral. Dinner and overnight in Split.
Day 4 Saturday
SPLIT - DUBROVNIK
After breakfast we depart for Dubrovnik and take a sightseeing tour of this spectacular, UNESCO protected, fortified city whose city walls can be walked on. Dubrovnik was known as the Republic of Ragusa in the Middle Ages. It became the only eastern Adriatic city-state to rival Venice. Supported by its skilled diplomacy and wealth the city achieved a remarkable level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries. We will visit the Franciscan monastery with Europe's third oldest pharmacy, Rector's Palace and the Cathedral. In Dubrovnik, we will have dinner and spend the night.
